Community Storytelling
A Summer Series!
Friday, July 17th and Thursday, August 27th
7:00-8:30 pm (doors open at 6:30)
Open to all at The Big Yellow House
On the patio at 647 Main Street, Melrose MA
What’s better than gathering outside on a beautiful summer evening and sharing stories? We hope you can join us for Community Storytelling on the patio!
What to Expect
6:30PM: Bring your own lawn chair and dinner, and settle in! Storytelling begins at 7:00PM.
This is a good weather only event. If it rains, we’ll see you at the next one. Check our Facebook or Instagram page day of to confirm.
Come with a prepared 5-8 minute true story from your life, and let’s try out our stories together in a low-key, laid-back night. Not interested in telling a story just yet? Come and listen to others. We will have a featured storyteller kick off the evening. Come to one, or to all three!
This event is open to everyone. Donations at the door are gratefully accepted to further our work creating community events like this.
We welcome persons with disabilities and of all identities and world views. Please reach out to Kris Rodolico (krodolico@fyamelrose.org) to share any disability related accommodation that you will need to participate in or experience the event.
About In Real Life (IRL)
IRL began as a collaboration with Melrose Organizes for Real Equality (MORE), a grassroots organization dedicated to centering diverse voices in Melrose and surrounding communities. Since 2018, IRL has organized 6 larger community storytelling events with themes, as well as dozens of informal evenings for novices to try their hand at storytelling.
In 2025, we collaborated with Stellar Story Company to offer two 4 week workshops for the broader community to expand our network of local tellers. As we continue to build a storytelling culture in Melrose, we continue to host small events as part of our Live from the Living Room series to provide a safe, supportive and low-key environment to practice telling and witnessing. We hope you join us!
To learn more about how to get involved, please email Kris Rodolico at krodolico@fyamelrose.org
