Let’s Paint!

IN PERSON OFFERING: This group is all paint, all experiments, and all fun! Young artists use different kinds of paint, including acrylics and watercolor, and various techniques and painting implements to explore the basics of color, form and texture. IN PERSON OFFERING: Through age appropriate art experiences with a variety of media, your child will explore basic art skills with a balance of structure and experimentation. IN PERSON OFFERING: Clay is fun to play with, but the basics are vital! Learn the building blocks of any good hand-built clay sculpture, beyond the “basic” pinch pot to slabs, coils, and how to create a stable piece. IN PERSON OFFERING: This class is a direct result of what artists at our studio tend to do naturally, and we are happy to oblige by adding a little structure and encouraging experiments to achieve new techniques. IN PERSON OFFERING: This class emphasizes creative problem solving in sculpture, with a focus on design elements that enable imaginations to soar. Beginners will learn the basics of construction, while advanced artists can make finished products with a focus on formal design, structuring, and surfacing elements. There will be age appropriate emphasis on planning and design. Students will create small mock-ups as well as larger projects, with the potential to collaborate on a whole-class piece. Scene Studies

ONLINE OFFERING: Grab your friend and sign up for Scene Studies.  This class is designed for partners! Each week, pairs of students will explore a scene and perform for the group.  Students will learn acting techniques and have a chance to become their own playwright.  For our final performance, students will write their own scene with their partner! This performance will be recorded and shared with families!

Intro to Stop Motion Animation

ONLINE OFFERING: Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve experimented with animation in the past, this class will teach you some of the fundamentals of animation! We will discuss frame rate, keyframes, tweeting, easing, basic blocking and movement. By the end of your course you will have created a 10 to 30 second stop-motion animation with sound! Here’s the best part- anyone can animate with virtually anything! Grab a camera or smartphone, and some fun objects from around your house and let’s get to work!

IN PERSON OFFERING: Combine character drawing and scene illustration to reinvent favorite stories or create your own. Use character and setting design to create worlds and the comic book style pages to go with them. Students can work from original stories, or draw on pre-existing sources for inspiration and ideas. Each student will have at least 4 pages for their re-imagined story and make a book to keep them in. IN PERSON OFFERING: In this class, students will be able to further develop their drawing skills as they work on projects tailored to their interests. Photography Club

A PILOT PROGRAM: This is an opportunity for budding young photographers to connect, share photos and feedback, and learn from each other. Hosted by two HS photography students, the group will engage in creative challenges and learn from their mentors and each other and build their portfolio. There is potential for an art show at the Big Yellow House this spring! A digital camera is encouraged but not required. Discovering Our Stories

IN PERSON OFFERING: In this class suitable for all experience levels, we’ll explore many of the possibilities that monoprinting has to offer! Monoprint techniques create unique works of art that can be added to, drawn into, and even collaged on top of. Mark making and subtractive techniques will be introduced, and artists will be able to select favorite prints to continue working and drawing into. All necessary materials provided.

IN PERSON OFFERING: This is an opportunity for guidance and feedback in drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, and mixed media. Sara will take a maximum of 6 artists from beginning to intermediate levels and help you to create a personal goal based on interest and ability. This is a great way to get started with your “I’ve always wanted to….” art goals. Because of the independent nature of the class, there is no supply list, but the instructor will get in touch with you ahead of time about what supplies you should bring, based on your interests.

Discovering Your Palette

ONLINE OFFERING:Watercolor is a joy when we are combining luscious colors together, but how do we do that so that the colors are gorgeous and not muddy? This workshop looks at the colors you use all the time – what are they composed of? What are the properties of those colors? How to best combine them so that the results are what we want. And yes, we will be doing a painting, too! This workshop is designed for both beginner and experienced painters. Upon registration, painters will receive and email with information, including materials list. The Zoom link will be sent just prior to the workshop.

Creative Writing for Adults: Compelling Characters

IN PERSON AND ONLINE OFFERING! The characters we read and love the most are usually imperfect but memorable. But, as writers, how do we create round, dynamic characters that stay in the readers’ minds long after they’ve finished the story? In this generative workshop, we will explore several exercises, take a look at published works and leave the class with a seed for a story. IN PERSON OFFERING: A reworking of our Saturday drop ins, Covid-style! The same creative, flexible, art-making options as usual, but with timed pre-registration required. Projects can be adapted to most ages, including preschool and adults! We can’t be as spontaneous as we used to be with our Drop Ins, so registration is required and space is limited to 8 artists. Registration for this program will open by Friday for the next day. Ages 3-5 can register for the 10:00 spot and must have an adult with them.
