Creative Writing for Adults

Sunday 11/22
10:00-11:00 AM
Cost: $10
Limited number of seats available in person.

IN PERSON AND ONLINE OFFERING! Give the gift of poetry. Whatever the occasion, a poem makes a wonderful gift. With an audience of one person in mind, let’s brainstorm and draft poems of celebration, love, or gratitude to give in this or any season to someone special in our life. We’ll talk about some of the more traditional poems of homage – odes, sonnets, ballads, and elegies – but also conjure ways to create new forms and approaches to communicating how much we care.

Joe McGonegal has taught writing to all ages for 20+ years and is currently a communications professional at MIT. He has written for WBUR, the Boston Globe, and The Patriot Ledger, and his creative writing on grief and other topics has appeared in Two Hawks Quarterly, Saranac Review, Talking Writing, and McSweeneys Internet Tendency.

Colored Pencil Workshop

December 12, 10:00-12:00
Cost: $35
  (10% member discount available)

ONLINE OFFERING: Learn the potential of colored pencils in this all-level workshop. We’ll touch on elements of color, shape, form, composition, opacity, and transparency. The aim of the class is to develop self-confidence and creativity, and we’ll take a look at examples of both fine arts and illustration. Many artists use colored pencil, from Picasso to David Hockney, and colored pencil can have many applications, from sketchbook work to finished pieces!
