Advanced Creative Arts

Discover your own artistic voice by developing a body of work that explores your personal interests and experiences. Learn to express yourself through various media including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and mixed media. Artists explore the idea of working from observation or with printed references from a subject matter of their choosing which may be from the physical or imaginary world. 

Drawing Club

Ages 11+ 
7 Wednesdays: 2/26-4/15 (skips 3/11)

This is a great opportunity for artists with a passion for drawing to get together, learn from each other, and gain valuable skills with Chiara as their guide. The group will meet weekly; artists can work independent study style on drawings from manga, cartoon character development to classical rendering and composition building.

Open Studio

Age: 9-14
7 Thursdays 2/27-4/16, skips 3/12

This is a small, independent group for self-directed artists who want to improve their drawing, painting, sculpture, or design skills. Artists’ interests and abilities are assessed, and personal instruction in specific media is offered. We work one on one with artists to help them develop a personal style, challenge creative skills, take risks and try new materials. Acceptance, encouragement, and constructive collaboration is encouraged among artists.

Teen Open Studio

NEW T(w)een Writers

Age: 11-14 (grades 6-8)

Drop-In for some Creative Writing time designed specifically for grades 6-8. Explore story, poetry, and language through prompts, open writing time and discussion. Writers of all kinds welcome! Bring your creativity and a journal, laptop, or whatever you like to write with. Snack included!

Metal Sculpture Workshop

Ages 11+ and adults

Students may explore the possibilities of using light metal to create sculptures and wall pieces using simple tools. Using needle nose pliers and a variety of thin sheet metal, foils, screen, and wire, students will learn how to fabricate forms. Participants may bring designs or photographic images of inspiration for projects, or work from imagination. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have learned a variety of techniques to use in continuing to develop work. 

Caricatures: Famous Faces with Matt Bernson

Age: 11-17

Resident artist Matt Berson illustrates how to exaggerate, minimize and accentuate features to create caricatures using famous, recognizable faces. Students will work from a different face each week, and develop techniques and strategies they can use to create caricatures on their own!
