Welcome to our new Ceramics Studio!

Ceramics Fall 2 – 2022

All Ceramics offerings are listed below. Some programs skew across age ranges, so double check please!

Ceramics classes are capped at 6 students unless otherwise noted. All classes must have 4 enrolled students to run.

Fall 2 session runs for six weeks, October 31st through December 16th, skipping Thanksgiving week.

While we are no longer requiring Covid Consent Forms and have lifted most protocols, masking is an individual choice which all of our staff and artists will treat with respect. Should the CDC and local guidelines change, we will revisit our policies.

Melrose Public Schools Early Release Day Hand-Building Clay Project – Ceramic Cats!

Grades K-4

The Ceramics Studio at Follow Your Art will offer hand-building workshops for students in grades K-4 on Melrose Public Schools early release days. Young potters will work on a special project. Fee includes materials, firing costs, and a clear coat of glazing by the Ceramics Studio staff. Workshops are capped at 6 and must have 4 enrolled to run. The project on 11/2 will be Ceramic Cats!

Melrose Public Schools Early Release Day Hand-Building Clay Project – Luminaries!

Friday Night Clay Workshop – Bat Planters

Grades 5-8

Looking for a Friday night activity? This fall, the Ceramics Studio at Follow Your Art will offer one-time 2-hr handbuilding workshops to make a special piece of pottery. Workshops are designed for novice potters, but students with experience are welcome! Fee includes materials, firing costs, and a clear coat of glazing by the Ceramics Studio staff. Workshops are capped at 6 and must have 4 enrolled to run. Limit 1-2 pieces per person based on size. The project on 10/21 will be to make cute bat planters.

In this 2 hour per week ceramics class, our potters will spend much of their time on the potter’s wheel learning basic wheel-throwing techniques and practicing how to form pots on the wheel. Intro to Ceramics

Interested in having access to a studio space to work on hand-building projects? FYACS is offering a pilot Independent Study Program for hand-builders to access the Ceramics Studio on Thursdays from 9AM-11:30AM!

This is not a class. Independent Study participants should be self-directed. That said, the Ceramics Studio at FYACS has has a library of possible projects to try, and Independent Study time occurs the same time as a wheel-throwing class, so instructor Michelle Ramadan will be able to assist as needed. 

Tuition grants you:

  • – access to the studio for 6 class meetings,
  • – one 25lb bag of Laguna 90 Brown clay,
  • – use of studio glazes and underglazes,
  • – access to a slab roller, stamps, and tools, 
  • – one bisque firing and one glaze firing 

Beginner/Advanced Beginner Wheel-throwing
